Nuki Smart Lock FAQ — Everything You Need to Know
If your door has a euro-profile cylinder (standard in the Netherlands, Germany, Austria, Belgium, and most of Europe), yes. Look for an oval-shaped keyhole — that's a euro-profile. Nuki's Universal Cylinder replaces your existing one and supports door thicknesses from 30-65mm.
No. As of 2025, Nuki dropped the Premium subscription entirely. All features — remote access, smart home integrations, activity log, Auto Unlock — are free. No monthly or annual fees.
Yes, all three. The Smart Lock Pro supports Matter over Thread, which provides native integration with Apple Home, Google Home, Amazon Alexa, and Samsung SmartThings. No bridge or extra hardware needed.
Absolutely. Installation is 100% reversible — no drilling, no permanent modifications. When you move out, swap the Nuki Universal Cylinder back for the original, and your door looks untouched. Many renters in Amsterdam, Berlin, and Vienna use Nuki for exactly this reason.
12 months on Thread/Bluetooth, about 6 months with WiFi enabled. The rechargeable lithium-polymer battery charges via a magnetic USB-C cable. You can charge it without removing the lock from the door.
Nuki uses AES-256 end-to-end encryption and has been independently audited by AV-TEST (German IT security institute). The lock is only accessible from the interior side of the door — the exterior looks unchanged. Your existing keys still work as a mechanical backup.
Yes. The Nuki Universal Cylinder comes with standard keys that work from the exterior side. The smart lock adds convenience on top of your mechanical lock — it doesn't replace it.
Up to 200 access permissions. Each can have time windows, recurring schedules, or be a one-time code. You can manage all permissions through the Nuki app.

Your regular keys still work from the exterior — the mechanical lock is always functional. The app also warns you at 20% battery, giving you plenty of time to charge. A full charge takes about 3 hours via the magnetic USB-C cable.
The 4th generation uses a brushless motor that's dramatically quieter than previous models and competitors. You can comfortably unlock at night without waking anyone. It produces a soft click rather than the mechanical whirring of older smart locks.
If you want keyless entry without your phone, yes. The Keypad 2 supports fingerprint, PIN code, NFC cards, and Apple Home Key via Aliro certification (March 2026). IP67 weatherproof, so it handles rain and snow. €179 is significant, but it's the most capable smart lock keypad on the market.
